17th European Coatings Symposium ECS 2027, 21st –23rd September 2027 Cambridge, UK​​

Organised by the SCI’s Colloid and Surface Chemistry Group and RSC Colloid & Interface Science Group, the European Coatings Symposium has run every two years since 1995. The meeting returns to the UK for the first time in 20 years.

There will be a training day aimed at students and newly hired industrialists on the 20 September. The conference will then run from 21 – 23 September. There will be speaking slots available via submitted abstracts, as well as a poster session. There will also be a conference dinner held in the historic dining hall of Gonville and Caius College.

2026 Annual General Meeting of the Joint Colloids Group, 16th September 2026, Online

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Joint Colloid Group will be held on Wednesday 16 September 2026, 1 PM BST.

Members of the RSC’s Colloid and Interface Science Group and of the SCI’s Colloid and Surface Chemistry Group are free to attend the AGM, and registration is not required. Members of either groups have received an email with MS Team link to join the online meeting.

During the meeting, the JCG chair will give an overview of the group, review past activities, and set up future plans. There will be a Q&A feature in the meeting where you will be able to type questions to be answered at the end of the AGM. The total duration of the event will be around 30 minutes.  

Members of either group are free to attend the AGM, and registration is not required.

8th Annual Early Career Colloid Meeting, 25-26 June 2026, Hertfordshire

The Annual Early Career Colloid (ECCo) meeting will take place on 25-26 June at the University of Hertfordshire. The conference is specially geared towards early career academics, PhD students, postdocs and scientists from universities, research organizations and industries.

SCI Innovations in polymeric coating, 16-17 June, London

SCI’s All-Ireland Group and Materials Chemistry Group are organising this two-day symposium, which aims to cover the field of polymeric coatings and promote new developments in the field. Through a combination of workshops, academic and industrial presentations and panel discussion, attendees will learn the fundamentals of polymeric coatings as well as learning about new developments in the field and real-world applications of coating technology.

Formulating Materials, 12 March 2026, Manchester

RSC Formulation Science and Technology Group is organising the inaugural Formulating Materials conference. The event is designed to bridge the gaps between the formulation and materials communities and to help identify opportunities for collaboration, learning, and networking.

Okinawa Colloids 2026, 1-6 November 2026, Okinawa, Japan

Okinawa Colloids 2026 is an international conference on colloid and surface science, held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Division of Colloid and Surface Chemistry (DCSC) of The Chemical Society of Japan (CSJ), established in 1976. The event will take place at Bankoku Shinryokan in Nago City, Okinawa.

2025 McBain Medal Meeting, 30th January 2026, University of Birmingham

Dr Gemma-Louise Davies, University of Birmingham, is the 2025 recipient of the prestigious McBain Medal. The 2025 McBain Medal meeting will feature invited lectures and will be concluded with the 2025 McBain Medal Lecture by Dr Gemma-Louse Davies.

39th ECIS UK Colloids, 7-12th September 2025, Bristol

The annual ECIS conference is the flagship event of the European Colloids and Interface Society (ECIS). Its 39th edition will be jointly held with the 5th UK Colloid Science Conference!

RSC Colloid & Interface Science Group (CISG). http://www.rsc.org/membership/networking/InterestGroups/colloidscience/

The former is open to SCI members only. The latter is open both to RSC members and associates AND to scientists and engineers who belong, either, to a chartered professional or learned body from outside the chemical sciences, or to another chemical society with whom the RSC has entered into an international partnership agreement approved by RSC Council. Non-RSC members of CISG pay RSC a small annual fee to cover administration and postage.
